Day 80: Rest Day @ Esperance

June 3rd, 2011

Esperance
Distance: 0km
Total distance: 4898km

An absolutely no riding day. My legs are still in a mechanically sound condition but a forced break is necessary to allow muscle tissue repair. After 2 weeks of continuous riding, it feels weird to be not on the move. The clock seems to tick slower too. It rained the whole day, so I just stayed in the hostel all day. What a slow day, seriously! I kept looking out of the window hoping that the rain would stop so that I can go outdoor. Guess I’m an outdoor type of person eh? There were a few backpackers here but they all seem pretty occupied with their own activity. I must admit it feels a little strange that people don’t come and talk to me like how it usually is in the caravan parks, haha. I guess no one here knows I’m traveling with a trike. A conversation with a fellow backpacker from hong kong proves me right. She had no idea that the trike belongs to me and even asked me a rather complicated to answer question “How did you manage to bike here from Sydney?”. I said “I pedaled”, haha. Anyway, it was nice to have someone to talk to after a day of silent atmosphere. Spent the rest of my evening lying on my bed listening to music while reading my Nullarbor travel diary. It’s been 80 days since I left Sydney and yet I still feel I am absorbing new experiences every day. I find myself loving cycle touring more than ever now. Hope I don’t fall into a post-touring depression when I reach Perth, haha.
