Day 88: Middleton Beach (Side Tour)

June 11th, 2011

Albany
Distance: 32km
Total distance: 5609km

Today’s weather was beautiful! Breakfast with my dorm mate, Jerry from Los Angeles, and then I’m off to repair my gear cable in the one and only bicycle shop in Albany. I was prepared to leave my trike there and collect it later but the repair was done in only 15 minutes, excellent service! Since it was still early, I took the opportunity to ride the bikeway up to Emu Point passing the famous Middleton Beach along the way.

YHA backpackers where I'm staying at the moment
Jerry, a retired architect from Los Angeles, spending a full day sight-seeing in Albany before heading to Esperance tomorrow
Jerry said this is the deepest sink he's ever seen. I totally agree!
A tadpole trike on sale at the bikeshop! Meh, it's not a recumbent
Albany Entertainment Centre, or how Sydney Opera House looks like when you remove all the curves
Another view of the same building
A cute building next to the entertainment centre
Hmmm, something is missing here
That's better 🙂
Such a beautiful day at Albany!
A pelican can sometimes look small, like in this photo
Somewhere at the end of the Princess Royal Drive I found a bikeway!
A very nice bikeway that took me to many beautiful sceneries such as this one. Oh, what is that building over there? A ruin eh?
Point King Lighthouse, built in 1858 and operated until 1911
For a period of time, one of the lightkeepers lived here with his wife and their 10 children!
Life must be extremely hard for these families
Looking from one room to the other, can't imagine how a family of 12 can possibly fit in here
The view of the ocean from the lighthouse
Another shot of the lighthouse exterior
Back on the bikeway heading to Middleton Beach. Those black wiggly lines are sealants for the surface cracks
These are very educational. I'm probably one of the few visitors who actually read every single word on these info boards
More views of the ocean
Spotted a Bandicoot! This active little marsupial costs me 10 shots (to obtain a non-blurry photo)
A yellow bin can make a good subject too don't you think?
Middleton Beach looking very tempting!
Riding among the coastal heath
The bike lane has several beach access point
Gorgeous ocean view at Emu Point
Pontoon at Oyster Harbour
The park at the tip of Emu Point where I spent my time chilling and taking photos
View of Oyster Harbour from the park
Another gorgeous view. I can just look at these all day long!
Back at the town centre. Still have some daylight to spare, so took some time to walk around the town centre
Asian food always draw my attention!
Too bad for the asian restaurants, tonight I feel like having some chickens and they have to be crispy! XD
