I have finalised my travel route! I will be riding across the continent from east to west, that is, from Sydney to Perth. Riding in this direction makes more sense since most of the riding will be done in the morning in the direction of the sunlight rather than against. Couple of benefit from this are less glare for my eyes and reduced skin contact to harmful UV radiation.
I will be starting my tour on the 16th of March, right after I fly into Sydney on the night of 15th. Can’t believe this is happening so soon! But I’m glad it is, I have been waiting for six months now! Three more days and I am off to what I hoped to be the biggest adventure in my life so far! I cannot find a single word to describe how I am feeling right now, excitement and nervousness are definitely there!
I have divided my overall route to 5 sections or legs, so that it makes writing more manageable and to make the distance less intimidating *gasps*. I will be documenting my experience as I travel and upload them into this website whenever there’s internet access. Below are my proposed travel route for each of the 5 legs.
Leg 1: Sydney to Melbourne (1322 km)

Leg 2: Melbourne to Adelaide (991 km)View Melbourne to Adelaide in a larger map
Leg 3: Adelaide to Ceduna (774 km)

Leg 4: Ceduna to Norseman (1200km)

Leg 5: Norseman to Perth (1318 km)

Overall: Sydney to Perth (5605 km)
I expect Leg 4 to be the most challenging section – crossing the Nullarbor Plain, which is basically a desert, translates to extreme weather conditions and minimal water supply. Given that this is only my first real cycling tour, my goal for this trip is to come back home in one piece and breathing 🙂
Hi! Melvyn,
I think you will make it no matter how hard it will be
since you have set your goal and have the strong determination to achieve it. Furthermore, you have
done that as a trial before this challenging epic adventure of yours.
Keep it up and may god gives you the courage, strength and blessings all the way through.
