Apart from cleaning and maintaining my trike and laundry, I did what every other visitors of Mount Gambier did \u2013 checked out the famous Blue Lake, a 70m deep lake in the crater of an extinct volcano.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_699\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-699\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3232.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3232\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-699\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My campsite for these two nights. Went to the bikeshop to look for a flag but it's not open due to Anzac Day public holiday today. Looks like I can only get it when I reach Adelaide<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It was only a 5km ride up to the crater and wow, the lake was really blue! Apparently its not blue all the time, it changes to grey nearing winter. The other lake was Valley Lake with a normal lake colour but this gives you a comparison of the blueness of the Blue Lake.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_701\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-701\" style=\"width: 341px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3257.jpg?resize=341%2C512\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3257\" width=\"341\" height=\"512\" class=\"size-full wp-image-701\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Riding the bike lane partly covered with autumn leaves on the way up to Blue Lake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_703\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-703\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3270.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3270\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-703\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-703\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Blue Lake. No, it's seriously blue!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_702\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-702\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3264.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3264\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-702\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I ended up riding the circumference of the lake along the footpath, just so I can see the lake in all directions. I'm still amazed by its colour<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My next stop was the insane Cave Garden in the City Centre. It\u2019s insane because there&#8217;s a freaking cave right behind the city hall! Not just any cave but the opening is a sinkhole the size of 2 basketball court. This place is so awesome! Mount Gambier is definitely not an ordinary city!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_700\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-700\" style=\"width: 341px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3251.jpg?resize=341%2C512\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3251\" width=\"341\" height=\"512\" class=\"size-full wp-image-700\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-700\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The insane Cave Garden, a sinkhole in the middle of the city!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next unusual thing I saw was another sinkhole, about ten times larger than the Cave Garden, called the Umpherson Sinkhole, named after the owner of the sinkhole who popularised it in the 1860\u2019s. My jaw dropped when I first saw this sinkhole. This place is so surreal. I liken this to a real life fairytale setting, the council did a fine job of beautifying this place with various native and exotic plants. I spent more than an hour here taking photos and simply admiring the beauty of this sinkhole. I reckon if they manage to somehow attract a few wallabies and birds here and there, this place would be megatastic!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_704\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-704\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3302.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3302\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-704\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-704\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Umpherson sinkhole. Doesn't look like there's any hole there. Wait a minute, what's behind that bush...<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_705\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-705\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3305.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3305\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-705\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-705\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WHOAAAAAA!!!! *Jaw hits the ground*<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_706\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-706\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3310.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3310\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-706\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-706\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It's like a fairytale!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_707\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-707\" style=\"width: 512px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/melvynyap.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/IMG_3342.jpg?resize=512%2C341\" alt=\"\" title=\"IMG_3342\" width=\"512\" height=\"341\" class=\"size-full wp-image-707\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-707\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Looking up from the bottom of the sinkhole.
